چکیده
Abstract Autophagy is an evolutionarily conserved degradation process that degrades damaged proteins to maintain homeostasis and protect cells against stress. In this study, we identified characterized a critical autophagy-related protein, UvAtg14, in Ustilaginoidea virens , which the ortholog of MoAtg14 rice blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzea . UvAtg14 co-localized with UvAtg8 (an autophagy marker protein) highly expressed at 1–3 days post-inoculation. Deletion UvATG14 gene blocked GFP-UvAtg8 trafficking autophagic digestion significantly reduced mycelial growth, asexual reproduction, virulence U. deletion mutants also exhibited increased sensitivity various abiotic stresses. Our findings indicate key protein contributes conidia production, pathogenicity

Rice False Smut Fungus, Ustilaginoidea virens, Inhibits Pollen Germination and Degrades the Integuments of Rice Ovule
Ustilaginoidea virens is a flower-infecting fungus that forms false smut balls in rice panicle. Rice false smut has long been considered a minor disease, but recently it occurred frequently and emerged as a major disease in rice production. In vitro co-cultivation of U. virens strain with young rice panicles showed that U. virens enters inside of spikelets from the apex and then grows downward ...
متن کاملUvHOG1 is important for hyphal growth and stress responses in the rice false smut fungus Ustilaginoidea virens
Rice false smut caused by Ustilaginoidea virens is one of the most important diseases of rice worldwide. Although its genome has been sequenced, to date there is no report on targeted gene deletion in U. virens and no molecular studies on genetic mechanisms regulating the infection processes of this destructive pathogen. In this study, we attempted to generate knockout mutants of the ortholog o...
متن کاملGenome Sequence of Ustilaginoidea virens IPU010, a Rice Pathogenic Fungus Causing False Smut
Ustilaginoidea virens is a rice pathogenic fungus that causes false smut disease, a disease that seriously damages the yield and quality of the grain. Analysis of the U. virens IPU010 33.6-Mb genome sequence will aid in the understanding of the pathogenicity of the strain, particularly in regard to effector proteins and secondary metabolic genes.
متن کاملPEST MANAGEMENT: DISEASES Infection of Plants of Selected Rice Cultivars by the False Smut Fungus, Ustilaginoidea virens, in Arkansas
False smut, caused by Ustilaginoidea virens, has recently been found in Arkansas. Plants infected by the fungus remain symptom-free until heading and it is difficult to see spores on contaminated seeds. Field tests were conducted in 2006 to determine the effect of false-smut inoculation of rice seeds on the yields of selected rice cultivars. Seeds were inoculated by vacuum infiltration in suspe...
متن کاملQuantitative detection of the rice false smut pathogen Ustilaginoidea virens by real-time PCR.
Rice false smut (RFS) is an important rice disease that is caused by the pathogen Ustilaginoidea virens. In this study, we developed a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay to detect U. virens and to estimate the level of disease. The genomic DNAs of U. virens and rice were extracted together from the rice samples. Real-time PCR assays were performed and compared to conventional neste...
